Europe has been leading the fight against climate change, setting ambitious climate targets that challenge its entire economy and place significant pressure on the high-carbon-emitting steel industry.
The steel industry remains one of the largest contributors to global carbon emissions, responsible for approximately 7–9% of the world’s total emissions. The EU steel industry faces similar hurdles, and despite advancements driven by technological innovation and policy efforts, it is still far from achieving the “30-40-50” climate targets. Meeting these targets will require unified efforts across the entire industry chain.
